EBP stands for Evidence-based practice, a nursing abbreviation.
Approach to care that combines the best current research, clinical expertise and patient preferences to guide decisions. Nurses use it to update policies on topics like catheter care, fall prevention and pain management.
Example: EBP project: replaced routine 4-hour vital signs at night with risk-based checks to improve sleep.
Usage notes
Clinical questions are often framed in PICO format (population, intervention, comparison, outcome). Common nursing EBP models include the Iowa Model and the Johns Hopkins model. Magnet-designated hospitals are expected to show nurse-led EBP projects. EBP is one of the six QSEN competencies.
