DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications, a telecom abbreviation.
Standard for cordless home and office phones and headsets, operating in a dedicated band around 1.9 GHz so it does not interfere with Wi-Fi. A base station connects handsets within about 50 meters indoors.
Example: The office uses DECT headsets so agents can walk away from their desks during calls.
Usage notes
ETSI standardized DECT in 1992, originally as Digital European Cordless Telephone. In the United States, phones use slightly different frequencies and are marketed as DECT 6.0. A newer variant, DECT NR+, targets industrial Internet of Things networks. Many internet routers in Europe include a DECT base for VoIP phone service.
