D.D.C. stands for United States District Court for the District of Columbia, a court abbreviation.

Washington's federal trial court, where many lawsuits against federal agencies, challenges to regulations and executive actions, and disputes involving Congress are filed. It also tries federal crimes committed in the capital, including more than a thousand prosecutions that followed the January 6, 2021, breach of the Capitol.

Example: The coalition asked the D.D.C. to vacate the agency's new rule under the Administrative Procedure Act.

Usage notes

Note the doubled D: the first "D." means District and "D.C." means District of Columbia. The court shares the E. Barrett Prettyman courthouse with the D.C. Circuit. The separate D.C. Superior Court, a local rather than federal court, handles most ordinary criminal and civil cases in the city.
