1. Demand deposit account

Business & Finance · Banking Abbreviations

Bank account from which the holder can withdraw money at any time without notice, typically a checking account. The term is used in banking regulation, core banking systems and corporate treasury.

Example: Payroll funds are swept nightly from the operating DDA into a money market fund.

Demand deposits are the most liquid bank deposits and part of the M1 money supply. Banks value DDAs as a low-cost source of funding. When the Federal Reserve removed Regulation D's six-per-month limit on savings withdrawals in 2020, the practical gap between savings and checking accounts narrowed.

2. Deputy district attorney

Law & Legal · Court Abbreviations

Prosecutor title used in California, Colorado, Oregon, Nevada and some other states for the lawyers who work under an elected district attorney. A DDA performs the same work as an assistant district attorney elsewhere: charging cases, handling preliminary hearings and trying misdemeanors and felonies.

Example: The DDA filed an amended complaint adding a firearm enhancement to the robbery count.

The choice between "deputy" and "assistant" is a matter of local statute and custom, not rank. Senior management titles include chief deputy district attorney and, in Los Angeles County, head deputy. In other settings DDA can mean a deputy director of administration or similar posts, so context matters.
