D.N.J. stands for United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, a court abbreviation.

Statewide federal trial court for New Jersey, with courthouses in Newark, Trenton and Camden. Because many drug companies are based in the state, it is, with Delaware, one of the two main venues for pharmaceutical patent cases between brand-name and generic manufacturers.

Example: Both generic manufacturers were sued in D.N.J. within days of each other over the same drug patents.

Usage notes

In the Bluebook form there is no space between "N." and "J." because adjacent single capitals are closed up, while "D." stands apart. The district also hosts many mass-tort MDL proceedings and has local patent rules with special provisions for generic-drug litigation. Appeals go to the Third Circuit in Philadelphia.
