1. Consumer-to-consumer
Business & Finance · Marketing & Advertising Abbreviations
Commerce in which individuals sell goods or services to other individuals, usually through an online platform that provides listings, payments or trust features, such as eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Vinted or Depop.
Example: The resale app takes a 10% commission on every C2C sale.
eBay, founded in 1995 as AuctionWeb, was the first major C2C platform. Platforms make money through listing fees, commissions, buyer-protection fees or ads. In US staffing, C2C instead means corp-to-corp contracting.
2. Corp-to-corp
Business & Finance · Human Resources Abbreviations
US staffing arrangement in which an independent consultant works through their own incorporated business, which invoices the client or staffing agency directly, instead of being placed on the agency's payroll. It is common in IT contracting.
Example: The rate is $95 an hour C2C or $82 an hour on W-2.
Consultants paid C2C handle their own taxes, insurance and benefits, so rates are higher than for W-2 contractors. Recruiters list "W-2, 1099 or C2C" to show which arrangements a role accepts. In e-commerce, C2C instead means consumer-to-consumer selling.
