VPC stands for Virtual private cloud, a cloud computing abbreviation.
A logically isolated network inside a public cloud where customers define IP address ranges, subnets, route tables, gateways and firewall rules for their resources. AWS and Google Cloud use the term; Azure calls it a virtual network (VNet).
Example: Put the databases in private subnets of the VPC with no route to the internet gateway.
Usage notes
AWS launched VPC in 2009, and every AWS account now comes with a default one in each region. VPCs can be linked through peering, transit gateways or VPNs to on-premises networks. Overlapping CIDR ranges make later connections difficult, so address planning matters. Security groups and network ACLs filter traffic inside them.
