1. Compounded sterile preparation

Medical · Pharmacy Abbreviations

Any medication mixed or manipulated under aseptic conditions for injection, infusion, inhalation or use in the eye, such as IV antibiotic bags, chemotherapy syringes and parenteral nutrition. USP chapter 797 sets the standards for preparing them.

Example: All CSPs leaving the IV room must carry a BUD, initials and storage conditions.

The 2022 revision of USP 797, in force since November 2023, sorts CSPs into Categories 1, 2 and 3 with increasing beyond-use dates and testing requirements. The 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak traced to the New England Compounding Center killed more than 60 people and led to the 2013 Drug Quality and Security Act, which created FDA-registered 503B outsourcing facilities.

2. Concentrated solar power

Science & Engineering · Energy Abbreviations

Solar thermal technology that uses mirrors to focus sunlight onto a receiver, heating a fluid to run a steam turbine. Unlike PV, CSP plants can store heat in molten salt and generate electricity after sunset; designs include power towers, parabolic troughs and linear Fresnel collectors.

Example: Morocco's Noor Ouarzazate complex combines parabolic-trough and tower CSP with molten-salt storage.

Spain and the United States led early commercial CSP, with Solar One in California demonstrating a power tower in 1982. Falling PV and battery costs have slowed CSP growth outside sunny desert regions in China, the Middle East and North Africa. Power towers have been criticized for killing birds that fly through concentrated beams.

3. Cloud service provider

Technology & Computing · Cloud Computing Abbreviations

A company that offers cloud computing services, such as infrastructure, platforms or software, to customers over the internet. The largest are Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.

Example: The contract lets us move workloads to another CSP with 90 days' notice.

Analysts call the biggest providers "hyperscalers" because of their global data center footprint. Competition authorities in the EU and UK have examined egress fees and licensing practices among them. In web security CSP means Content Security Policy, and in Microsoft licensing it names the Cloud Solution Provider partner program.

4. Content Security Policy

Technology & Computing · Internet & Web Abbreviations

An HTTP response header that tells the browser which sources of scripts, styles, images and other content a page may load, blocking injected code that does not match. A strict CSP is one of the strongest defenses against cross-site scripting.

Example: The analytics snippet stopped working after the new CSP blocked inline scripts.

Developed at Mozilla and standardized by the W3C. Policies can run in report-only mode first, collecting violations without breaking the site, and nonces or hashes allow specific inline scripts. In cloud computing CSP means cloud service provider; HTTP headers and browser console errors point to the security-policy meaning.

5. Certified Safety Professional

Education & Academia · Professional Certification Abbreviations

Credential from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) for occupational safety and health professionals, requiring a bachelor's degree, four years of safety experience, a qualifying credential such as the ASP and a passing exam. It is the most widely recognized safety credential in the US.

Example: The construction company's safety director is a CSP.

BCSP was founded in 1969. Holders recertify every five years. In other contexts CSP can mean cloud service provider or content security policy.
