UKA stands for Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, a musculoskeletal & rheumatology abbreviation.
Partial knee replacement that resurfaces only one compartment, usually the medial side, when arthritis is limited to that area and the ligaments are intact. Compared with total knee replacement, recovery is faster and the knee often feels more natural.
Example: Isolated medial compartment OA with intact ACL; robotic UKA scheduled.
Usage notes
Also called partial or "uni" knee replacement; the Oxford knee is a well-known design. Revision rates in registries are higher than for total knee replacement, partly because conversion is relatively easy. Suitable candidates have correctable deformity and good range of motion.
