UHF stands for Ultra high frequency, a physics abbreviation.
Radio band from 300 megahertz to 3 gigahertz, home to television channels, mobile phone networks, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at 2.4 GHz, walkie-talkies and microwave ovens. Shorter wavelengths allow compact antennas but penetrate obstacles less well than lower bands.
Example: The venue's wireless microphones run on UHF frequencies between TV channels.
Usage notes
GPS satellites broadcast civilian signals at 1,575.42 MHz, within the UHF band. Microwave ovens operate at about 2.45 GHz because that frequency is reserved for industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) use. Above 3 GHz the band names continue as SHF and EHF.
