Technology that converts written text into spoken audio, used in screen readers, voice assistants, navigation apps, audiobooks and accessibility tools. Modern neural TTS produces natural-sounding voices and can clone a voice from short samples.
Example: The app reads articles aloud using TTS, with a choice of six voices.
Early systems such as DECtalk (1984) sounded robotic; DeepMind's WaveNet (2016) introduced the neural approach behind today's natural voices. Voice cloning raises concerns about fraud and consent, and some banks have dropped voice-based identity checks as a result. The reverse process is speech-to-text.
2. Takotsubo syndrome

Sudden, usually temporary weakening of the left ventricle, often triggered by intense emotional or physical stress, that mimics a heart attack with chest pain, ECG changes and raised troponin but without blocked coronary arteries. It mainly affects postmenopausal women and typically recovers within weeks.
Example: Chest pain after her husband's funeral; apical ballooning on ventriculogram with clean coronaries: TTS.
Also known as takotsubo cardiomyopathy, stress cardiomyopathy or "broken heart syndrome." The name comes from the Japanese takotsubo, an octopus trap whose rounded shape the ballooning ventricle resembles; Japanese physicians described it in 1990. The acute phase can bring heart failure, arrhythmias and left ventricular thrombus. In technology TTS means text-to-speech.
