SCSI stands for Small Computer System Interface, a computer hardware abbreviation.

Set of standards for connecting and transferring data between computers and peripheral devices such as hard drives, tape drives, scanners and CD burners. Parallel SCSI chained up to 7 or 15 devices on one cable, each with an ID number and a terminator at the end.

Example: Our 1995 file server had four SCSI drives chained together, each with a unique ID set by jumper.

Usage notes

Pronounced "SKUZ-ee". It grew from Shugart Associates' SASI interface (1981) and was standardized by ANSI in 1986; Apple used SCSI on Macs from the Mac Plus until the late 1990s. Parallel SCSI is obsolete, but its command set lives on in SAS, USB Attached SCSI (UAS) and iSCSI, which carries SCSI commands over networks.
