1. Orally disintegrating tablet

Medical · Pharmacy Abbreviations

Tablet that dissolves on the tongue within seconds without water, useful for patients who have trouble swallowing or are nauseated. Ondansetron, mirtazapine, olanzapine and lamotrigine are available as ODTs.

Example: Ondansetron ODT 4 mg on tongue q8h PRN nausea; no water needed.

ODTs are fragile and should be removed from the blister with dry hands just before use rather than pushed through the foil. Some contain aspartame, a source of phenylalanine, and carry a warning for people with phenylketonuria. Brand names sometimes use other labels, such as "SolTab" or "Melt".

2. OpenDocument Text

Technology & Computing · File Format Abbreviations

Word-processing file in the OpenDocument Format, the default for LibreOffice Writer and Apache OpenOffice Writer. Microsoft Word and Google Docs can open and save it.

Example: The volunteer sent the newsletter draft as an ODT because she uses LibreOffice.

ODT is the open counterpart of DOCX. Converting between them usually preserves text and simple formatting, but complex layouts, tracked changes and fonts may shift. Templates use the .ott extension. The format suits long-term storage because its specification is public and not controlled by a single vendor.
