OTF stands for OpenType Font, a file format abbreviation.
Font format developed jointly by Microsoft and Adobe that holds TrueType or PostScript-style outlines along with advanced typographic features such as ligatures, small caps, alternate glyphs and support for up to 65,536 glyphs. It is the standard format for professional fonts.
Example: The OTF version of the typeface includes old-style numerals and discretionary ligatures.
Usage notes
Microsoft and Adobe announced OpenType in 1996, and it was standardized as the Open Font Format, ISO/IEC 14496-22. Files with PostScript (CFF) outlines usually use .otf, and those with TrueType outlines .ttf. OpenType 1.8 (2016) added variable fonts, which pack a whole family of weights and widths into one file.
