NLG stands for Natural language generation, an artificial intelligence abbreviation.
The part of natural language processing that produces human-readable text from data or internal representations, such as weather reports, financial summaries, product descriptions and chatbot replies.
Example: The NLG engine turns each quarter's figures into a two-paragraph earnings summary.
Usage notes
Early commercial systems used templates and rules; the Associated Press began automating quarterly earnings stories in 2014 with Automated Insights. Large language models now handle most generation tasks. Together with understanding, generation makes up much of NLP.
