Full-contact combat sport combining striking and grappling from boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, fought in a cage or ring. Fights can end by knockout, submission or decision.
Example: He moved from college wrestling to MMA and won his first eight fights.
The Unified Rules of MMA, adopted by New Jersey's athletic control board in 2001, established weight classes, rounds and fouls. Promotions include the UFC, PFL and ONE Championship. Pronounced as letters, "M-M-A".
2. Money market account

Interest-bearing deposit account at a bank or credit union that usually pays more than basic savings and may include check-writing or a debit card. Like other deposits, it is insured by the FDIC or NCUA up to legal limits.
Example: We keep the down payment in an MMA until closing so we can write a check from it.
Also called a money market deposit account (MMDA). Often confused with a money market fund, which is a mutual fund sold by brokerages that is not deposit-insured. Banks gained the right to offer MMAs through the Garn–St. Germain Act of 1982, letting them compete with those funds. Outside finance, MMA means mixed martial arts.
