1. Master of ceremonies
Arts & Entertainment · Music Abbreviations
In hip-hop, a rapper or vocalist who performs over a DJ's music and hypes the crowd; more generally, the host who introduces acts at a show or event. Also spelled "emcee".
Example: The MC freestyled for ten minutes before the headliner came on.
The hip-hop sense grew from Jamaican "toasting" and the hosts at 1970s Bronx block parties who talked over DJs' records. Rap pioneers Coke La Rock and Grandmaster Caz were among the first MCs. In storytelling and fandom MC means main character, a different meaning.
2. Main character
Texting & Internet Slang · Fandom and Fan Fiction Abbreviations · also used in entertainment
Protagonist of a story, game, webnovel or anime, often the character the player or reader controls or follows, as in "the MC of this manga." Also used in "main character energy" for someone acting like the star of their own life.
Example: The MC in this visual novel is way more interesting than the love interests.
Standard in visual novel, otome game, webnovel and anime discussions, where the MC may be unnamed so players can project onto them. TikTok's "main character energy" and "main character syndrome" trends extended the idea to real life. In music MC means a rapper or master of ceremonies.
3. Monaco
Geography & Places · Country Code Abbreviations
Monaco, the world's second-smallest country at about 2 square kilometres, is a city-state on the French Riviera famed for the Monte Carlo casino and its Formula 1 Grand Prix. The alpha-3 code is MCO.

Monaco has the highest population density of any country. MC also means master of ceremonies and, in rap, a performer. The Grimaldi family has ruled since 1297.
4. Marginal cost
Business & Finance · Economics Abbreviations
Additional cost of producing one more unit of a good or service. Profit-maximizing firms expand output until marginal cost equals marginal revenue.
Example: For a software firm, the MC of serving one more user is close to zero.
In perfectly competitive markets, price equals MC in equilibrium. The MC curve usually falls at first and then rises as capacity limits are reached, crossing average total cost at its lowest point. Industries with very low MC, such as digital goods, tend toward subscription and bundling pricing.

Medical sources estimate that about 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, most in the first trimester. Forums offer support groups for pregnancy loss. Elsewhere MC means main character or master of ceremonies, very different contexts.
6. Mass Communication Specialist
Military · US Navy and Coast Guard Rating Abbreviations

The rating was established in 2006 by merging Journalist, Photographer's Mate, Lithographer and Illustrator Draftsman. Training takes place at the Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Maryland. In the Marine Corps and elsewhere, MC also means master of ceremonies or Commandant (CMC), so watch the context.

Example: Each Mc atom decays into nihonium, which is how element 113 was first seen at Dubna.
Scientists from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory reported it in 2003-2004, and it was named in 2016 after the Moscow region, where Dubna is located. Before naming, it was called ununpentium (Uup). Claims popularized by Bob Lazar that element 115 powers alien spacecraft have no scientific basis.
