mkdir stands for Make directory, a programming abbreviation.
The command that creates a new directory, or folder, on Unix, Linux, macOS and Windows command lines. The -p option creates any missing parent directories in one go.
Example: The command mkdir -p src/components/ui creates all three folders in one step.
Usage notes
Part of Unix since its early versions and specified by POSIX. Related commands include rmdir, which removes an empty directory, and cd, which moves into one. In Python, os.makedirs offers the same behavior as mkdir -p.
