JS stands for JavaScript, an Internet & web abbreviation.
The programming language of web browsers, used to make pages interactive, update content without reloading, validate forms and build full applications. Through Node.js and similar runtimes it also runs on servers, desktops and command-line tools.
Example: The page loads but nothing happens on click; check the JS console for errors.
Usage notes
Created by Brendan Eich at Netscape in about ten days in May 1995, first called Mocha and then LiveScript; the name JavaScript was a marketing tie-in with Java, to which it is only loosely related. The language is standardized as ECMAScript by Ecma International, and "JavaScript" itself is a trademark held by Oracle. Files end in .js, and many frameworks carry the suffix, as in Vue.js and Next.js.
