LAMP stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, an Internet & web abbreviation.
A classic open-source web server stack: the Linux operating system, the Apache HTTP Server, the MySQL database and PHP, sometimes Perl or Python, for application code. Much of the early dynamic web, including countless WordPress sites, ran on LAMP.
Example: The hosting plan is a standard LAMP server, so the WordPress install takes five minutes.
Usage notes
The acronym was coined by Michael Kunze in the German computer magazine c't in 1998. Variants include LEMP, using the Nginx web server (pronounced "engine-x", hence the E), WAMP on Windows and MAMP on macOS. MariaDB often replaces MySQL today.
