IMINT stands for Imagery intelligence, a military term abbreviation.

Intelligence derived from photographs and other images taken by satellites, aircraft and drones, analyzed to identify equipment, construction and activity. Analysts compare images over time to detect changes.

Example: IMINT showed new missile launchers at the base compared with last month's images.

Usage notes

Imagery intelligence is now usually treated as part of geospatial intelligence (GEOINT). Commercial satellite imagery has made IMINT-like analysis available to journalists and researchers. Pronounced "IM-int." Interpreting imagery is a specialized skill taught to military analysts, and historical IMINT successes include spotting Soviet missiles in Cuba in 1962 from U-2 photographs.
