JTAC stands for Joint terminal attack controller, a military term abbreviation.
Certified service member who directs combat aircraft engaged in close air support from a forward position, usually working with ground forces and communicating directly with pilots.
Example: The JTAC passed a 9-line to the F-15E and cleared it hot.
Usage notes
JTACs come from Air Force tactical air control parties, Marine forward air controllers, Army special operations and allied forces, and they must maintain certification. Pronounced "J-tack." The term replaced the older forward air controller (FAC) in many contexts.
