1. Intracranial pressure
Medical · Neurology Abbreviations
Pressure inside the skull exerted by brain tissue, blood and cerebrospinal fluid, normally about 5 to 15 mmHg in adults. Raised ICP from bleeding, swelling, tumors or blocked fluid flow can compress the brain and cause herniation and death.
Example: ICP sustained at 28 mmHg; hypertonic saline bolus given, HOB 30 degrees, CPP goal 60 to 70.
The Monro-Kellie doctrine states that because the skull is rigid, an increase in one component must be offset by a decrease in another. Signs include headache, vomiting, papilledema and, late, Cushing's triad of hypertension, slow heart rate and irregular breathing. In severe TBI, the Brain Trauma Foundation recommends treating ICP above 22 mmHg.
2. Ideal customer profile
Business & Finance · Marketing & Advertising Abbreviations
Description of the type of company, or customer, that gets the most value from a product and is most valuable in return, defined by attributes such as industry, size, region, technology used and budget. Sales and marketing use it to prioritize targets.
Example: Our ICP is US mid-market manufacturers with 200 to 2,000 employees running SAP.
An ICP describes organizations, while buyer personas describe the people inside them. A tight ICP improves conversion rates and reduces churn by steering effort away from poorly fitting customers.
3. Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy
Medical · Obstetrics & Gynecology Abbreviations
Liver condition of late pregnancy causing intense itching, especially of the palms and soles, without a rash, with elevated serum bile acids. Very high bile acid levels increase the risk of stillbirth, so delivery is often planned before term.
Example: ICP: palmar itching at 32 weeks, bile acids 48 micromol/L; ursodiol and delivery at 37 weeks.
Bile acid levels of 100 micromol/L or more carry the highest stillbirth risk and prompt earlier delivery, around 36 weeks. Ursodiol relieves itching. The condition resolves after birth but tends to recur in later pregnancies. In neurology ICP means intracranial pressure.
4. Incident command post
Government & Politics · Emergency Services Abbreviations
Location from which the incident commander and command staff manage an incident, ranging from a vehicle to a building. There is only one ICP per incident, even under unified command.
Example: Report to the ICP at the high school parking lot for your assignment.
The ICP is typically located near the incident but outside the hazard zone. Large incidents may also have staging areas, bases and camps. Its location is announced on the radio so arriving units can check in.
