HFP stands for Hepatic function panel, a laboratory test abbreviation.
Standard US liver panel billed under CPT 80076, containing albumin, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, total protein, ALT and AST. It is ordered when liver tests are needed without the electrolytes and kidney tests of a comprehensive metabolic panel.
Example: Recheck HFP in four weeks after stopping the statin.
Usage notes
Also called a liver panel. Unlike the CMP, the HFP includes direct bilirubin, which helps separate hemolysis or Gilbert syndrome from liver or bile duct disease. GGT is not part of the panel and must be added separately when the source of a raised alkaline phosphatase is unclear.
