CategoriesMedical

hs-CRP stands for High-sensitivity C-reactive protein, a laboratory test abbreviation.

Assay that measures very low CRP concentrations to estimate cardiovascular risk in people without obvious inflammation. Under a 2003 AHA/CDC scientific statement, values below 1 mg/L indicate low risk, 1 to 3 mg/L average risk and above 3 mg/L higher risk.

Example: Her hs-CRP was 4.1 mg/L, adding weight to the decision to start a statin.

Usage notes

The molecule is identical to standard CRP; only the analytical range differs. Testing is best repeated about two weeks apart while free of acute illness, since a cold or minor injury can raise it, and results above 10 mg/L suggest an acute process. The JUPITER trial (2008) used an hs-CRP of 2 mg/L or higher to select patients for rosuvastatin.
