FPR stands for False positive rate, a statistics abbreviation.
The proportion of actual negatives that a test wrongly flags as positive, equal to 1 minus specificity. Spam filters, fraud systems and medical screening tests aim for a low FPR.
Example: Lowering the alarm threshold raised the FPR from 2 to 9 percent.
Usage notes
FPR = FP / (FP + TN). When a condition is rare, even a small FPR can mean most positive results are false, the base-rate fallacy. The FPR forms the x-axis of the ROC curve. It differs from the false discovery rate, which divides by all positive results instead.
