GLM stands for Generalized linear model, a statistics abbreviation.
A framework extending linear regression to outcomes such as counts, proportions and yes-or-no results by combining a link function with a distribution from the exponential family. Logistic and Poisson regression are GLMs.
Example: We fit a Poisson GLM with a log link to model hospital admissions per day.
Usage notes
John Nelder and Robert Wedderburn introduced GLMs in 1972 and fitted them by iteratively reweighted least squares; R's glm() function implements them. Confusingly, GLM also stands for general linear model, the linear framework behind ANOVA and regression in packages such as SPSS.
