FID stands for First Input Delay, an Internet & web abbreviation.
A former Core Web Vitals metric that measured the delay between a user's first interaction, such as a click, and the moment the browser could begin handling it. Under 100 milliseconds was rated good.
Example: Old reports still list FID, but Search Console switched to INP in 2024.
Usage notes
Retired as a Core Web Vital on March 12, 2024, and replaced by Interaction to Next Paint. Critics noted that most sites passed easily and that it ignored every interaction after the first, as well as the time needed to update the screen. It could only be measured from real users, not in lab tools.
