1. End of month
Business & Finance · Management & Strategy Abbreviations · also used in general use
Last day or business day of the current month, used for deadlines, reporting cutoffs and payment terms. In invoicing, "EOM" terms mean the payment period is counted from the end of the month in which the invoice is dated.
Example: Invoice terms are net 30 EOM, so a June 10 invoice is due on July 30.
Month-end is a key moment in accounting, when books are closed, accruals posted and reconciliations completed, so "EOM close" is a familiar phrase in finance teams. In email subject lines, "EOM" can instead mean "end of message," signaling that the subject line contains the whole message.
2. Extraocular muscles (movements)
Medical · Anatomy Abbreviations
The six muscles that move each eye (four rectus and two oblique muscles), and the matching movement test. Having the patient follow a target in an H pattern checks cranial nerves III, IV and VI.
Example: EOM full; no nystagmus or diplopia.
The common note "EOMI" means extraocular movements intact. The lateral rectus is supplied by cranial nerve VI and the superior oblique by IV, with all the rest by III, remembered as LR6SO4. Restricted upward gaze after facial trauma suggests an orbital floor fracture with muscle entrapment.
3. End of message
Writing & Everyday · Email and Office Abbreviations
Added to the end of an email subject line to show that the subject contains the entire message and the body is empty. Recipients can read the note from the inbox without opening the email.
Example: Subject: Team lunch moved to 12:30, same restaurant, see you there EOM
The habit spread through productivity circles as a way to cut inbox time, and some writers use n/t ("no text") for the same purpose. Because EOM also means end of month, recipients outside the team may be puzzled, so it works best where colleagues have agreed on the convention. It is typically placed in brackets or parentheses at the very end of the subject.
