EEA stands for European Economic Area, an international organization abbreviation.
Arrangement that extends the EU single market to Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, giving them free movement of goods, services, capital and people in exchange for adopting most EU single-market rules, without full EU membership.
Example: As EEA citizens, Norwegians can live and work anywhere in the EU.
Usage notes
The EEA Agreement took effect in 1994. Its members contribute to EU funds but have no vote on EU laws, an arrangement debated in Britain as the "Norway model" after the Brexit referendum. In environmental contexts, EEA means the European Environment Agency.
