DSCSA stands for Drug Supply Chain Security Act, a pharmacy abbreviation.
US federal law enacted in 2013 that requires manufacturers, wholesalers and pharmacies to trace prescription drugs at the package level through an electronic, interoperable system, to detect counterfeit, stolen or contaminated products.
Example: Quarantine the shipment: the DSCSA transaction data does not match the serial numbers.
Usage notes
Under DSCSA, prescription drug packages carry a product identifier with the NDC, serial number, lot and expiration date, usually as a 2D barcode. Requirements were phased in over about a decade, and trading partners must verify suspect products and report illegitimate ones to the FDA.
