1. Debt management plan
Business & Finance · Personal Finance Abbreviations
Repayment program arranged by a nonprofit credit counseling agency in which the borrower makes one monthly payment to the agency, which pays unsecured creditors, often at reduced interest rates. Plans typically last three to five years.
Example: Enrolling in a DMP cut my credit card interest from 29% to about 8%.
Unlike debt settlement, a DMP repays the full balance, so it usually does less credit damage, though enrolled cards are normally closed. In the UK, debt management plans are informal agreements offered by charities such as StepChange and by fee-charging firms.
2. Data management platform
Business & Finance · Marketing & Advertising Abbreviations
Ad technology system that collects and organizes mostly anonymous audience data, often from third-party cookies, into segments used for targeting display and video advertising.
Example: The DMP built a "frequent business traveler" segment for the airline's campaign.
DMPs declined as browsers restricted third-party cookies, starting with Safari in 2017 and Firefox in 2019, and as privacy laws tightened, so many vendors folded them into CDPs.
