1. Dual antiplatelet therapy

Medical · Cardiology Abbreviations

Combination of aspirin with a P2Y12 inhibitor such as clopidogrel, ticagrelor or prasugrel, used after acute coronary syndromes and coronary stenting to prevent stent thrombosis and further heart attacks. Typical duration is 6 to 12 months, adjusted for bleeding risk.

Example: Continue DAPT with aspirin and ticagrelor for 12 months after NSTEMI, then aspirin alone.

Stopping DAPT early, particularly in the first month after stenting, sharply raises the risk of stent thrombosis, so elective surgery is often postponed. Newer strategies shorten DAPT to one to three months in patients at high bleeding risk or drop aspirin and continue a P2Y12 inhibitor alone. The DAPT score helps decide on therapy beyond a year.

2. Domestic asset protection trust

Law & Legal · Estate and Family Law Abbreviations

Irrevocable self-settled trust, permitted in about 20 states, in which the creator can remain a discretionary beneficiary while the assets are shielded from the creator's future creditors after a waiting period. Alaska and Delaware first authorized them in 1997.

Example: The surgeon moved part of her savings into a Nevada DAPT years before any claims arose.

Traditional law lets creditors reach a trust the debtor created for his own benefit. Transfers made to defraud existing creditors can still be undone, and courts in other states may refuse to respect a DAPT, as in Toni 1 Trust v. Wacker (Alaska 2018). Nevada, South Dakota and Delaware are popular DAPT states.
