C-V stands for Schedule V controlled substance, a pharmacy abbreviation.
Lowest federal control class, covering preparations with limited quantities of certain narcotics and some other drugs, such as codeine cough syrups, diphenoxylate-atropine (Lomotil), pregabalin, lacosamide and brivaracetam.
Example: Promethazine with codeine syrup is C-V, but our state requires a prescription.
Usage notes
Federal law allows some Schedule V products to be sold without a prescription by a pharmacist, with age and quantity limits and a logbook, but many states require a prescription anyway. Cenobamate and other newer antiseizure drugs have also been placed in Schedule V. Also written CV.
