CACI stands for Compounding aseptic containment isolator, a pharmacy abbreviation.

Sealed glove-box workstation kept under negative pressure, used to compound sterile hazardous drugs while protecting both the product and the operator. A positive-pressure version without containment is called a compounding aseptic isolator (CAI).

Example: Cyclophosphamide doses are prepared in the CACI inside the negative-pressure buffer room.

Usage notes

CACIs are one type of primary engineering control recognized by USP chapters 797 and 800. They allow some hazardous compounding in smaller facilities, but they must be certified every six months and placed in rooms that meet USP 800 ventilation requirements.
