AVNRT stands for Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia, a cardiology abbreviation.
The most common form of paroxysmal SVT, caused by a reentry circuit using fast and slow pathways within or near the AV node. It is more frequent in women and often first appears in adolescence or young adulthood, causing a regular tachycardia typically between 150 and 250 beats per minute.
Example: EP study induced typical slow-fast AVNRT; slow-pathway ablation performed without complication.
Usage notes
The ECG may show a "pseudo r prime" in V1 or a pseudo-S wave in the inferior leads because retrograde P waves are buried at the end of the QRS. Slow-pathway ablation cures most patients, with a small risk, well under 1 percent, of damaging normal conduction and needing a pacemaker. AVRT differs by using an accessory pathway outside the node.
