1. Anorexia nervosa

Eating disorder characterized by restriction of food intake leading to significantly low body weight, intense fear of gaining weight and a disturbed perception of body shape or weight. It has one of the highest mortality rates of any psychiatric disorder, from medical complications and suicide.
Example: AN, restricting type, BMI 14.8, HR 42; admit for medical stabilization and supervised refeeding.
Subtypes are restricting and binge-eating/purging. Family-based treatment, also called the Maudsley approach, is first-line for adolescents. Refeeding must be monitored because of the risk of refeeding syndrome with low phosphate. Atypical anorexia, in which weight remains in the normal range despite major loss, can be just as medically dangerous.
2. Airman (US Navy)

Navy E-3 rank for apprentices in the aviation group, marked by three green diagonal stripes. Navy airmen work on flight decks, in hangars and at air stations while training toward ratings such as aviation boatswain's mate, ordnanceman or structural mechanic.
Example: AN Price spent her first deployment as a blue shirt chocking and chaining jets on the flight deck.
Not to be confused with the Air Force rank Airman (Amn), which is an E-2. Designated Navy airmen write their rating first, as in ABHAN or AOAN. The lower grades are Airman Apprentice (AA) and Airman Recruit (AR), all using green stripes.
3. Netherlands Antilles

Former ISO code for the Netherlands Antilles, dissolved on October 10, 2010, when Curaçao (CW) and Sint Maarten (SX) became constituent countries and Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (BQ) became Dutch municipalities.
Example: Address files with AN for Willemstad need updating to CW.
The .an domain was later retired. AN also appears in old shipping and stamp catalogs.
