WWE stands for World Wrestling Entertainment, a sports league and organization abbreviation.
Largest professional wrestling company, producing scripted matches for the weekly shows Raw and SmackDown and premium live events such as WrestleMania. Since 2023 it has been part of TKO Group Holdings together with the UFC.
Example: WWE moved Raw to Netflix in January 2025 after more than three decades on cable.
Usage notes
The company grew out of the Capitol Wrestling Corporation of the 1950s and was later called the World Wide Wrestling Federation (1963) and the World Wrestling Federation (1979). It became World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002 after losing a dispute over the "WWF" initials, and since 2011 has used just the letters WWE. Outcomes are predetermined; keeping up the illusion that they are real is called kayfabe.
