VOB stands for Video Object, a file format abbreviation.
File format of DVD-Video discs, found in the VIDEO_TS folder, containing MPEG-2 video, audio tracks, subtitles and menus. Each VOB file is limited to 1 GB, so a movie is split across several.
Example: Copy all the VOB files from VIDEO_TS before converting the home DVD to MP4.
Usage notes
VOB files are based on the MPEG-2 program stream format and are usually accompanied by IFO and BUP files that hold navigation and backup information. Commercial DVDs are encrypted with CSS, which VOB files keep when copied. VLC and HandBrake are common tools for playing and converting them.
