TRY stands for Turkish lira, a currency abbreviation.

Turkey's currency, issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey and divided into 100 kurus. It has lost much of its value since 2018 amid high inflation, which peaked above 80 percent in 2022.

Example: Hotel rates in Istanbul are often quoted in euros rather than TRY.

Usage notes

In 2005 Turkey removed six zeros from the old lira; the new currency was briefly called the new Turkish lira (YTL) before reverting to plain lira in 2009. The ₺ symbol was adopted in 2012. Because the code is also an English word, it occasionally confuses search engines.
