TiB stands for Tebibyte, a data unit abbreviation.

Exactly 2^40 bytes, 1,099,511,627,776, about 10 percent more than a decimal terabyte. Storage arrays, cloud volume limits and file-system maximums are often specified in TiB.

Example: The storage array provides 500 TiB of usable capacity after RAID overhead.

Usage notes

The gap between decimal and binary units grows with size: about 2.4 percent at kilo, 4.9 percent at mega, 7.4 percent at giga and 10 percent at tera. That is why a "4 TB" drive appears as about 3.64 TiB, which Windows labels 3.63 TB.
