SSAT stands for Secondary School Admission Test, a standardized test abbreviation.

Admission test for private middle and high schools published by The Enrollment Management Association, offered at Elementary, Middle and Upper levels. It covers verbal, quantitative and reading sections plus an unscored writing sample, and boarding schools in particular rely on it.

Example: The boarding school's admitted students typically score above the 80th SSAT percentile.

Usage notes

Upper Level section scores range from 500 to 800. Percentiles compare students only with others in the same grade who tested in recent years, so they can look low for strong students. A growing number of independent schools have become test-optional.
