CategoriesGovernment & Politics

S.Res. stands for Senate Resolution, a political abbreviation.

Prefix for simple resolutions in the US Senate, which affect only the Senate: setting internal rules and committee funding, honoring individuals or expressing the chamber's views. They are not sent to the House or the President.

Example: The senators introduced an S.Res. designating October as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Usage notes

Commemorative resolutions designating days, weeks or months make up a large share of Senate resolutions and usually pass by unanimous consent. Changes to the Senate's standing rules and committee budgets also take the form of S.Res. measures. Numbering restarts at the beginning of each Congress.
