1. Straight leg raise

Medical · Rehabilitation Abbreviations

Exercise lifting the straightened leg while lying on the back to strengthen hip flexors and quadriceps; also a clinical test that raises the leg passively to reproduce sciatic nerve pain.

Example: HEP: quad sets, SLR 3 x 10, heel slides; extension lag noted.

As a test, pain radiating below the knee between about 30 and 70 degrees suggests lumbar nerve root irritation, a finding also known as Lasègue's sign. As an exercise, an "extensor lag" means the knee bends while lifting, showing quadriceps weakness after knee surgery.

2. Statutory liquidity ratio

Business & Finance · Banking Abbreviations

Indian requirement that banks hold a set share of their deposits in liquid assets, mainly government securities, cash and gold. The Reserve Bank of India sets the SLR, which also creates steady demand for government bonds.

Example: With SLR at 18 percent, the bank must keep at least ₹18 of every ₹100 in deposits in approved securities.

Unlike CRR balances, SLR holdings earn interest. In the United States, SLR has a different meaning: the supplementary leverage ratio, a capital requirement that applies to the largest banks.
