1. Quarterly business review
Business & Finance · Management & Strategy Abbreviations
Meeting held every three months, usually between a vendor and a key customer or between a team and leadership, to review results against goals, discuss issues and agree priorities for the next quarter. In B2B software, account managers use QBRs to demonstrate value and protect renewals.
Example: Bring adoption metrics and the support-ticket trend to Thursday's QBR with the client.
Many customer success teams treat the QBR as their main structured touchpoint with an account. Some have renamed it an EBR (executive business review) to emphasize strategy over status updates. Internally, QBR findings often roll up into annual planning.
2. Total Quarterback Rating
Sports · American Football Abbreviations
Quarterback efficiency metric developed by ESPN and introduced in 2011, scored from 0 to 100 with 50 representing average play. It counts passing, rushing, sacks, penalties and the game situation of each play.
Example: His 82.4 QBR led the league, though his passer rating ranked only fifth.
Not the same as the NFL's traditional passer rating, which runs from 0 to 158.3 and uses only completion percentage, yards, touchdowns and interceptions per attempt. QBR gives extra weight to plays in high-leverage situations and splits credit with receivers. Because ESPN's formula is proprietary, it cannot be calculated by hand.
