PiB stands for Pebibyte, a data unit abbreviation.
Exactly 2^50 bytes, about 1.126 petabytes, used in high-performance computing, storage system specifications and file-system limits.
Example: The parallel file system offers 700 PiB of usable capacity for the supercomputer.
Usage notes
The prefix pebi- combines peta and binary. Supercomputer storage is often quoted in PiB because the underlying hardware is managed in powers of two. Many vendors still write PB for the same figure, so check which is meant when comparing quotes.
