OIDC stands for OpenID Connect, a cybersecurity abbreviation.
An identity layer built on OAuth 2.0 that lets applications verify who a user is and obtain basic profile information through a signed ID token, usually a JWT. Google, Microsoft and Apple sign-in buttons use it.
Example: Configure the OIDC client with the issuer URL and redirect URI from the identity provider.
Usage notes
Published by the OpenID Foundation in 2014, replacing earlier OpenID versions. Because it uses JSON and REST, it is simpler than SAML for mobile and single-page apps. CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions use OIDC to obtain short-lived cloud credentials instead of storing long-lived secrets.
