OEE stands for Overall equipment effectiveness, an engineering abbreviation also used in business.

Manufacturing metric that combines availability (uptime), performance (speed) and quality (good parts) into a single percentage showing how productive a machine or line is compared with its ideal. An OEE of 100% means only good parts, as fast as possible, with no stops.

Example: The line's OEE rose from 62% to 78% after changeover times were cut.

Usage notes

OEE is calculated as availability times performance times quality. Seiichi Nakajima promoted it as part of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) in Japan, and 85% is often cited as world class for discrete manufacturing. Because it is a product of three ratios, small losses in each compound quickly.
