ÖBB stands for Österreichische Bundesbahnen (Austrian Federal Railways), a rail and transit abbreviation.

Austria's national railway company, which runs Railjet intercity trains and the Nightjet sleeper network. It is Europe's largest operator of night trains.

Example: We booked an ÖBB Nightjet sleeper from Vienna to Venice and woke up in Italy.

Usage notes

ÖBB revived international night trains in 2016 when it took over routes abandoned by Deutsche Bahn, and its Nightjet brand spurred a European night-train comeback. Railjet trains connect Vienna with Munich, Zurich, Prague and Budapest. Austria's mountain railways, including the Semmering line, are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
