1. Bus rapid transit

Transportation & Travel · Rail and Transit Abbreviations

High-capacity bus system with dedicated lanes, stations with level boarding and off-board fare payment, designed to give rail-like speed and reliability at lower cost. Bogotá's TransMilenio and Curitiba's system in Brazil are famous examples.

Example: The new BRT line cut the crosstown trip from 50 minutes to 30.

Curitiba pioneered the concept in 1974. Full BRT includes center-running lanes and signal priority, while lighter versions are sometimes criticized as "BRT creep." US examples include Cleveland's HealthLine and Indianapolis's Red Line.

2. Brasilia Time

Units & Measurements · Time Zone Abbreviations

Official time of Brazil's capital and its populous southeast, including Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, three hours behind UTC. Brazil has four zones, from UTC−2 on Atlantic islands to UTC−5 in Acre.

Example: The B3 stock exchange session opens at 10:00 BRT.

Brazil abolished daylight saving in 2019, ending decades of summer time in its southern states. The Fernando de Noronha archipelago uses UTC−2, most of Amazonas uses UTC−4 and Acre uses UTC−5.

3. Be right there

Texting & Internet Slang · Texting and Chat Abbreviations

Tells someone the writer is on the way and will arrive in moments, used in texts between friends meeting up or between coworkers called into a room.

Example: Brt, just parking the car now, grab us a table.

Different from BRB: BRT promises arrival in person, while BRB promises a return to the chat. Close to OMW (on my way), though BRT implies the writer is very near. Too casual for messages to clients.
